11th November 2018 marked the centenary of the Armistice of 1918 when the guns fell silent over Europe.
I led the Old Scholars Project which continues to tell the forgotten First World War Stories behind the Memorial Plaque on the St Werburghs Comunity Centre.
The volunteer team created a new booklet to tell more of the men’s stories focussing on stories from 1918.
Click here to download the booklet.
The booklet was launched at the Picnic in the Park Sept 2018.
The team also compiled a summary of the archive and it has been transformed into a wonderful and colourful large scale Art Heritage board, pride of place next to the memorial plaque. It includes Artwork made by the pupils from the local primary school.
We ran a free wreath making workshop at the local Methodist Church and the final wreaths were laid at a remembrance service held at the Centre.
Finally the project came togehter at the Remembrance Service inviting all the participants, families and neighbours and welcomes several family and descendants of the soldiers.
We are grateful to all those who play The National Lottery and to the Heritage Lottery for their support of this wonderful and moving project.
